Hosting A Baby Shower? Art inspired ideas...

Embellished Onesies

Decorating onesies at baby showers has become quite popular and makes for a fun way to get everyone involved. Onesies are used so often during infancy and each one will be unique in its own special way! And the guests will have tons of fun showing off their artistic ability, maybe. Guests who wish to participate will get a onesie and piece of cardboard box to insert between layers so that the paint does not bleed through to the other side. It is the duty of the hostess to purchase several packages of onesies in which will be decorated with fabric paint during the actual baby shower! Multiple sizes works great as the mom-to-be gets to take home the embellished onesies after it is all said and done! Fabric paint & brushes can be purchased at your local craft store along with pieces of cardboard box to place in between layers during the painting and drying time. Have fun & be creative!

Unsure of your own artistic ability? -- Check out HCIT's Cutie-Patootie Duo's for an extra special embellished onesie; sure to be a hit at any baby shower!!!

Fun Baby Shower Games!

Baby showers are such a special time for parents to be. A baby shower is held in honor of the new miracle to come and usually showers the mother-to-be, although couples showers are growing more and more popular these days. The games listed will work for either type of party. Some games listed are for entertainment only and do not actually qualify a winner or winning team. Then there are those that do qualify a winner and a prize/gift is usually awarded. Such prizes are typically 'parent or baby' oriented and are usually regifted to the mom or parents-to-be. An HCIT ribbon tie bib or embellished burp cloth would make the perfect prize! Some hosts award the actual winner with a party favor to take home as well.

Have Fun - Please submit any out of the ord. games that aren't listed...hosts are always looking for unique ways to spice up a baby shower!

Baby Bingo - Played just like normal bingo, except instead of letters and numbers, there are pictures of baby related items, like pacifiers, bottles, carriages, and storks. To create your own bingo cards, you can use a word processor to create the grid and then import clipart. To find free clipart, do a search on the web for "free clipart".

Baby word jumble - Think of as many baby related words as you can and then mix them up. You can easily create this game and print it out on your own computer. Contestants will have a certain amount of time to unscramble as many words as possible. The person who gets the most words wins.

Pictionary - Think of as many baby related words or terms and print or write them on some cards. Contestants can draw the items and have other people guess them.

Nursery Rhyme Game - Here's another easy game to prepare. Take a popular nursery rhyme, omit some words, and then print it out. The object of the game is to fill in all the missing words and the winner is the first one to complete the rhyme.

Baby Mad Libs - This one is hilarious. Write a story about the new mother or baby and then omit some words and replace them with a blank space marked noun, verb, etc. Have your guests come up with words to fill in the blanks and then read the story to everyone.

Baby on the Go - I played this one at the most recent shower I attended and it was a lot of fun. Perfect for couples showers. This suits baby showers held outdoors! Divide into two teams (boys vs. girls is how we played). So long as there is an even number to sides. Items needed: (2) baby carriers, (2) baby dolls or stuffed animals with legs, (4) diapers, a referee which is usually the mom-to-be, & a prize. With the baby doll or stuff animal strapped in & diapered, set up the two baby carriers side by side on one side of the yard... a good distance but not so far that Aunt Aileen or Grandma Pat can't run to without needing oxygen. Put an extra diaper next to each carrier so you will need a toal of four diapers. When the clock starts, the first team member in line runs the distance to the car seat where the baby is buckled in. Once there, they have to unstrap the baby, lay him aside and change the diaper PROPERLY. Once the ref. okays the diaper job, they have to strap the baby doll back into the carrier PROPERLY & then run back to meet the next team member in line. They, in turn, take the carrier with diapered baby strapped in, run the distance to the referee with carrier in hand, set down the carrier, unbuckle baby, change diaper, strap baby back in and run to the meet the next member. It's an action packed game, but is truly a lot of fun. Take turns until the last person finishes! Now you can see why boy vs. girls works great - but equally fun for a crowd of all females!
